Lemon Jelly for Spring

NEW BRANDS in the store make me so happy!!! The minute my girlfriend Meesh announced to our group “These new chelsea rainboots from Lemon Jelly smell like delicious lemons!!??” I was excited. Whenever we get something new I immediately jump on Instagram and check out the brand account to learn more. I feel like you can learn so much about a company by scrolling through their feed. My first impression was that it would be a fun product to work with and style!

Mishae was right. These boots smell easy squeezy lemon breezy. The store actually smells like Spring now!! Isn’t it funny how our brains can interpret the season by what we are surrounded with?? In my world it is definitely Spring, but the weather network is actually calling for lots of snow this week (which better be a huge lie). I’m in denial.

These chelsea boots really can’t get any cuter for Spring! I mean, common. The taupe, nude and black colorway is everything. I could have one of each and never need to buy another rainboot again. They are CHEAPER than Hunter Boots coming in at the $120 mark.

After 40 years in the footwear business, designing and producing injected soles for all around the world, we’ve decided it was time to sell the product of our imagination. We played cool, brainstormed, fooled with words and rummaged our feelings to collect the flavors, the colors and the shapes of the simplest pleasures in life. In the end we’ve made shoes out of it. Our shoes taste like the sweetest sweets: A feast of ice cream, jelly beans, gummy bears and popsicles. They sound like giggling and feel like a cuddle. They smell like Lemon Jelly.

I had to try on these babies to see for myself how comfortable they really are. I’m a 7.5/8 and found that the 38 fit perfectly. Not too small, not too snug. Can I just rave about the box design for a second?? I’m a sucker for cute graphics and this brand has that covered. It was just like opening up a candy box. I’m interested in the nude shades. I already have a dozen black boots and something neutral could open up many outfit possibilities!

LEMONJELLY7.jpg

This is the taupe shade! The footbed of the boot is exactly how they describe it to be. Injected jelly. The most comfortable rubber boot I have ever tried on. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Hunter boots, but these are manufactured in Portugal. They use high tech materials and pay close attention to the details.

LEMONJELLY9

Mama like!!! A refreshing change for Spring and perfect to wear with all of my outfits. Especially big bold patterns that require a neutral shoe. The wonderful thing about a nude color is that you can literally do anything with it. It’s just as useful as a black ankle boot.

LEMONJELLY6LEMONJELLY10

Here is a layered look for Spring that I quickly put together! I used lots of neutrals (Cream jacket, white slip, taupe jellies) and a pop of color (olive green purse, chunky knit). A sweater layered underneath a jacket adds dimension to your look. Canadian weather is so unpredictable! Better to be prepared is what I always say. A rubber boot is my best friend these days.

Maybe you need a black pair of rubber chelsea boots! Or maybe you want to work the lightest shade of nude. Whichever color you choose – they are all beautiful & super versatile. You’ll definitely see me skipping around town in mine.

Free People Spring Picks

It’s time for another Spring review! I’ve been so excited to focus on Free People, a brand that I’ve truly fallen in love with through working at the shops. I’d like to share a quote with you from their story. It resonated with me and may interest you too.

“Free People shed its junior image and evolved into a more mature, contemporary brand. This allowed twenty-something women to appreciate the line of clothing that catered to their intelligence, creativity and individuality, while keeping with its great quality and affordability. And that’s just who we wanted to reach: a 26-year-old girl, smart, creative, confident and comfortable in all aspects of her being, free and adventurous, sweet to tough to tomboy to romantic. A girl who likes to keep busy and push life to its limits, with traveling and hanging out and everything in between.”

(via freepeople.com)

I still remember my very first FP item. It was a Christmas gift from my husband and continues to be a huge statement piece in my wardrobe. The trapeze slip! I’ve had it for two years now and find that the style never grows old. The floral pattern is so me. Black, grey and white colors make it neutral and super easy to match with everything. Most days I throw on a dressy pair of leggings for a casual and stylish look.

SLIP1

Layer this slip with sweaters and skinny jeans in the fall/winter. Put it on with denim capris in the summer or pair it with your favorite high waist shorts in 30 degree weather. Pack it in a suitcase for your vacation! This slip is beach approved over a bathing suit, but also dresses up nicely for an evening dinner. Literally an all season staple. I love it so much that I bought it in another color!

SLIP2.jpg

I have many pieces in my wardrobe by Free People, but I chose this style as my number one Spring pick! It’s available right now at The Plush Boutique in a few different colorways. Don’t be surprised if you see me work it into various posts this season! I’m obsessed.

The Royale Flat is a customer favorite. Our Instagram account blew up when we released a sneak peak of the wonderful design. It’s the kind of shoe that makes your heart swoon online and then explode out of your chest when you try it on in person!

ROYALE1

I wear size 7.5/8 and found myself fitting comfortably into a size 38. At first I thought my instep would be too high to get into the curved foot opening but I was pleasantly surprised! The leather is very soft and flexible. After wearing them around for more than five minutes it was easy to tell why this style is to die for.

ROYALE3.jpg

ROYALE2

If you’re looking for a unique shoe – this is it! The side cut outs and slight stacked heel give it a casual feel. The light leather is perfect for spring and summer. On chillier days I would pair them with denim and a layered poncho for a walk to the Farmers Market. A floral print statement dress would look awesome on hotter festival days. SOS has one size run of the Royale Flat in brown. Shop the link here to view it on our online store.

ROYALE4

I absolutely adore the cut out design! It’s a refreshing twist on the traditional flat with the finest Spanish craftsmanship. I’m giving my stamp of approval and would recommend this style to anyone interested.

Next up we have a bold statement by Free People. It was the first Spring style to hit the floor this season and the only pattern I want to wear on my feet from now on. The Cecile is a leather ankle boot featuring a round/distressed toe and contrasting block heel.

CECILE2.jpg

It’s my dream boot. Again, I take a 7.5/8 and the 39 fit perfectly. I imagine these boots with so many outfits. Mostly in neutral shades of cream and white with pops of color in between. The texture and detail of the leather in itself is a work of art. I wouldn’t say that these were the comfiest boots I’ve ever had on, but with time (because they are a genuine leather) they will soften and mold to the shape of my foot.

CECILE7
(close up detail of Cecile ankle boot)

I wanted to style a professional look for somebody with these beauties. I found a gorgeous lightweight trench coat from The Plush Boutique and a white Free People tunic to layer underneath. Yoga denim completes the look – skinny style, but a tailored fit. The key to nailing a business casual outfit! Add a Matt & Nat handbag and you are ready to hit the office in style this Spring. Shop the Cecile ankle boot here.

CECILE

There you have it! My Free People Spring picks. I’m all about the pieces that will work into my everyday wardrobe. These are the styles that I will splurge on because I know that they will be key pieces going forward. I hope that you enjoyed this review and I thank-you for taking the time to read! Especially all of my awesome customers that are following me on this blogging adventure. You guys rock.

On the Go, Shoe Review, Spring Picks

Hunter Boots for the whole family.

As a Mama on the go I really appreciate the easy things in life – like slipping on a boot and being able to run out the door without any hassle! Spring is just around the corner. I thought this would be a really great time to write a Hunter Boot review.

5

My daughter is 14 months old and running around like nobody’s business! Her baby boots no longer make the cut, especially now that she’s officially enrolled in daycare. Kids footwear is so important. Toddlers need a style that will allow their feet to grow while still remaining comfortable and easy to walk in. I was pleasantly surprised when I slipped a pair of Hunter Boots on to Izzy’s feet. The smallest size (UK 4) fit her perfectly.

The Kids First Classic Hunter Boots are designed for growing feet. They have a flat sole and a round foot to ensure easy walking. The wide upper allows for freedom of movement as well as making the on/off process easier for your child. All parents want is something easy. There is nothing that I hate more than zippers that stick or laces that take forever to tie. Like, hello!!! My kid is having a tantrum and I’m trying to leave the house for an appointment that I’m already late for!!!

6

If you’re on the fence about buying your toddler a $65.00 pair of boots, here is some advice from a fellow Mama that understands. Bite the bullet and buy the first pair full price! Once your toddler has outgrown their size – SELL them! People go crazy over a good deal. Clean your pre-loved boots up and discount them for another Mama to thank you for. Take the money and use it towards your next pair. A $65.00 pair of boots now becomes $30.00. And by that time you would have been willing to pay more!

Personally, I am a fan of the core colors. Hunter Green, Military Red, Navy Blue, Yellow and Black. The Kids First Classics come in many different shades. SOS also has two shades of pink in store for the Mom’s that just can’t resist. I am definitely giving my stamp of approval. Isabel now owns her very first pair of Hunter Boots! Just like Mommy.

3

The Original Refined Chelsea boot is a popular style for spring. I love ankle boots, but this style is awesome because my calves don’t fit the tall boots comfortably – even with the back adjust option! So if you are reading this thinking you were the only one (you aren’t) and the chelsea style was designed for you. SOS carries a few different styles, but this one is my favorite. Matte black. It matches everything and I prefer simplicity.

2

Here is my awesome husband! I dragged him out of the house super early to model for me and he didn’t complain once. Tyler is wearing the Men’s Original Chelsea Boot in the color ochre. At first he noticed that they “feel weird” but after we finished our photo shoot he mentioned that he could get used to wearing them. I think it was an honest review. Not all guys are into the Hunter Boot trend, but the chelsea style is definitely an easy one to style outfits with! I didn’t even have to ask him to cuff his pants. Clearly I’ve trained him well 🙂

Hunter Boots for the whole family!! A style that you can literally wear all year long. Mine are an important staple in my wardrobe and will continue to be a new staple in Izzy’s closet as well. The black ankle boot.

Buying the perfect pair of black ankle boots for Fall 16 / Winter 17 took a lot of decision making! The shelves were lined with all kinds of styles. I think it was the most variety I have ever seen at once. Customers came into the store specifically wanting a black ankle boot! Lucky for them we had unreal selection.

The style I bought is now completely sold out. I can’t find it available online and I literally sold the last pair we had to a lovely lady the other day. But I still feel as though this is an important post – plus we have tons of 50% off styles available now in store!!! (Great time to stock up on your favorite styles for next season if you ask me). Let me introduce you to the Victory boot by Matisse.

matisse
Damn, girl!! What a good looking boot. I had my eye on this style for a long time. As sizes started to disappear I knew that I needed to act fast, but I wanted to make sure that I picked the perfect black ankle boot for what I needed. You absolutely have to try on more than one style to get an idea of what you’re looking for. That’s my number one piece of advice to my customers as they shop for their Solemate. Can you believe that my first initial reaction to this boot was that it was “witchy?” The pointed toe and the strong block heel reminded me of the wicked witch, but once I saw the boot being tried on I slowly started to fall in love. I was looking for something unique and I wanted a pointy toe.

The Victory boot is a little bit rock and roll and SO versatile. Cut off jeans/ Skinny jeans/ Leggings/ Flares/ Tights – you name it – and it looks good. My favorite way to wear these boots is with my bodysuit. I soften the look with a textured cardigan and compliment the edgy feel with a pair of light wash destroyed jeans.

matisse-block
What I love most about this boot is where it cuts off at the ankle. I am short so anything that I can do to elongate my legs is appreciated. A sexy peek-a-boo of skin at the ankle breaks up the heavy feel of the boot. The built in elastic adds to the overall comfort, but is a nice design detail to this leather bootie.

matisse-block1

This boot definitely has an edgy vibe. For a different look I like to pair them with black skinnies, a black tunic and a black fedora. All black everything and these Matisse boots still pop! Sometimes simplicity is everything. I love that a boot can set the tone of an outfit and also have the power to change the whole look.

matisse1 I can’t wait to create more looks with this ankle boot. Don’t be afraid of a pointed toe and a chunky heel! It appears heavy on the shelf, but it looks and feels completely different on. Narrow toes take a bit to get used to, but if you buy a good quality leather they break in like a glove. Now is time to find styles like this at an unbeatable discount. Kodiak Alma

alma
It only makes sense to begin with my favorite boot of the season. This is the Alma double core Chelsea boot by Kodiak. My everyday boot! I bought them last year (Fall 2015) and I’ve been wearing them year round ever since. This boot has waterproof leather that keeps my feet dry and light insulation to keep them cozy. The tread is made out of slip resistant rubber for extra traction. Whether I’m walking to work, running errands or going on a crazy adventure these boots always have me covered. The microfiber lining gives me all day comfort. It even sports a removable memory foam insole (for those of you who need space for orthotics).

sos
They are a Fall/Winter/Spring boot for me. What I love most about them is the quality of the leather. It’s already treated so it doesn’t require any waterproof sprays. The leather is slightly oiled so buffing scuffs and dust off the actual boot is ridiculously easy! Super important for me as I am always getting dirty (messiest person on the face of the planet).

When customers enter the store and ask me if we carry Blundstones I immediately show them the Kodiak line. For me the Kodiak boots vs Blundstones are more feminine in design. They have a refined look for the option of styling dressier outfits. I don’t believe that there is anything rugged about the Alma boot. Blundstones are a great brand. My husband has a pair that he wears every single day and then late into the evening at his workplace in the kitchen. Personally I felt that the Kodiak boots offered the same quality with a better design that was easier to match to my personal style. Not to mention the difference in price. Kodiak boots actually run cheaper! At that point, I was sold on them. I always like to educate my customers before they buy a style based solely on popularity.

alma2

My boots are two years old and they still look brand new. I use mink oil on mine once every couple months to keep the leather conditioned and healthy. I have to say that these are the easiest boots I have ever had to take care of.

The most popular question that I get asked from customers about this style would have to be, “Are these boots really waterproof?” Here is my answer. Yes! I walk about 8 blocks everyday to work and I haven’t had one day where my boots leaked water. I walk on sidewalks and sometimes climb up and over snowbanks depending on the snowfall. I wear them on rainy days and splash through puddles with my daughter. My feet get cold very easily, but with a thick hiking sock inside of my boots I stay nice and toasty (That being said, after working a six hour shift in them my feet sweat. Like wow get this boot off my feet!)

alma1 I can wear these boots with all of my casual outfits. They look awesome with skinny jeans, boyfriend jeans and leggings. In the fall/winter I like to wear them with plaid shirts & blue denim jeans/ blue denim shirts and black plants/ tunics and black leggings etc. They look adorable paired with a cozy poncho & unique with some patterned socks.

The Alma boot comes in three colorways: Black, Caramel & Dark Brown. Click here to view them all online. I am super happy that I invested in these boots! Kodiak offers a wide variety of lifestyle footwear for women & for men. I’m really looking forward to my next pair. There is a style called the Bethany boot that I currently have eyes for. Check them out here. Thanks for reading! Visit SOS Save Our Soles downtown Peterborough to try on the product line ♥
